Iraq: Aaron, Chris, Josh, Jim

John McCain believes it is strategically and morally essential for the United States to support the Government of Iraq to become capable of governing itself and safeguarding its people. He strongly disagrees with those who advocate withdrawing American troops before that has occurred.

It would be a grave mistake to leave before Al Qaeda in Iraq is defeated and before a competent, trained, and capable Iraqi security force is in place and operating effectively. We must help the Government of Iraq battle those who provoke sectarian tensions and promote a civil war that could destabilize the Middle East. Iraq must not become a failed state, a haven for terrorists, or a pawn of Iran. These likely consequences of America's failure in Iraq almost certainly would either require us to return or draw us into a wider and far costlier war.

The best way to secure long-term peace and security is to establish a stable, prosperous, and democratic state in Iraq that poses no threat to its neighbors and contributes to the defeat of terrorists. When Iraqi forces can safeguard their own country, American troops can return home.

Barack Obama believes we must be as careful getting out of Iraq as we were careless getting in. Immediately upon taking office, Obama will give his Secretary of Defense and military commanders a new mission in Iraq: ending the war. The removal of our troops will be responsible and phased, directed by military commanders on the ground and done in consultation with the Iraqi government. Military experts believe we can safely redeploy combat brigades from Iraq at a pace of 1 to 2 brigades a month that would remove them in 16 months. That would be the summer of 2010 – more than 7 years after the war began.

Under the Obama plan, a residual force will remain in Iraq and in the region to conduct targeted counter-terrorism missions against al Qaeda in Iraq and to protect American diplomatic and civilian personnel. He will not build permanent bases in Iraq, but will continue efforts to train and support the Iraqi security forces as long as Iraqi leaders move toward political reconciliation and away from sectarianism.

Nader/Gonzalez would reverse the current policy in the Middle East.

The current political strategy of pre-emptive war in the Middle East is a disaster for both the American people and the people of the Middle East. It has bloated the already wasteful military budget and has cost at present over 4,000 American lives, nearly 100,000 American injuries, and over a million Iraqi civilian lives, plus the destruction of their country.

Nader/Gonzalez propose a rapid withdrawal of troops from Iraq.

A target of withdrawing troops in six months will be set.

John McCain is for stem cell research and would like to avoid cloning embryos for research and stick to using embryonic stem cells originally created for fertility treatments. He also believes in the use of adult stem cells and advocated federal support for it.

Barack Obama supports embryonic stem cell research and supports relaxing federal restrictions on it. Obama voted for the Stem Cell Research Enhancement Act of 2005 which would give federal funding for research on stem cell lines obtained form discarded human embryos originally used for fertility treatments.

Ralph Nader supports stem cell research. Nader wants to ensure that the benefits of stem cell research are available to everyone and not held back by corporations and patent holders.

Oil Dependency: Collin, Sal, Anna, and Ashley

Barack Obama believes money should be invested in hybrid cars and renewable sources. He disagrees with all drilling.

John McCain says we have to lift the ban on offshore drilling and he wants to start drilling in Alaska. He supports offshore drilling because of the country's heavy reliance on oil. He supports offshore drilling, which is helpful to the environment.

Ralph Nader believes that the country needs to be weened away from its fossil fuel addiction. He is against drilling, including drilling in Alaska, he believes it is harmful to the environment.

Obama believes that he will secure the borders of the United States. In the future if he becomes president he will work with Mexico and promote jobs to help Mexicans and decrease Illegal Immigration in the United States.
By doing this he is estimating that illegal immigration will strongly decrease and they will be able to find a decent job in their own country.
He will also help the illegals who already live in the United States to learn English and go back to be able to become citizens, in exchange of a pay.
John McCain wants to secure the borer to be able to keep illegals from coming into the United States. He wants to create a system that will send all illegals back and give the the US citizens an opportunity to find a job.
He wants to decrease the green cards and visas. He will set a priority to the Illegals whom live in their country.

John McCain believes that the solution to solve the "outsourcing outrage" is to give tax breaks to companies and corporations because they outsource. His philosophy is that if companies receive tax breaks then they will not be tempted to outsource. Therefore, American jobs will grow and unemployment here will decrease.

Barack Obama believes that the average American, middle class are those who deserve tax cuts in order to relieve the stress of the economic crisis effecting everyone's budget. For example, in one of his recent commercials he states that he is focused on Americans like the couple who is searching for ways to retire, and the worker who is watching his job being shipped overseas,...

Ralph Nadar also has a more liberal stance on the issue of outsourcing. He has fought for American jobs for years. In his opinion, Outsourcing American jobs is our country's to problem. However, his plans if he was elected could not be found.

Global Warming

Senator Obama made a plan that would reduce emissions by 80 percent would get rid of all pollution permits.

Senator McCain believes in conserving our natural resources and he is trying to promote and investing in environmental resources.

Ralph Nader believes that it is time to cut our fossil fuels. Global warming is threaten by the environment and fossil fuels. If global warming does not decrease our country will go bankrupt from the damages.

Obama supports abortion but he understand that people will disagree with him and he respects that. He opposes any tries to over turn Roe vs Wade.

McCain does not support abortion unless under the circumstances of rape with testing. McCain Would like to over turn Roe vs. Wade.

Nader is also opposed to abortion and would like to over turn roe vs. wade with what he calls are "scare tatics".

Obama:
"Barack Obama will reform No Child Left Behind
Obama and Biden believe teachers should not be forced to spend the academic year preparing students to fill in bubbles on standardized tests and he will improve the assessments used to track student progress to measure readiness for college."

Obama will return education to a humanly experience for our youth. Education is about growing and learning for life, and not just taking a test.

McCain:
"No Child Left Behind has focused our attention on the realities of how students perform against a common standard. John McCain believes that we can no longer accept low standards for some students and high standards for others. In this age of honest reporting, we finally see what is happening to students who were previously invisible. While that is progress all its own, it compels us to seek and find solutions to the dismal facts before us."

Simply, McCain will enforce that schools are to be the main responsibility of their students, and will also add incentives to high-performing teachers so that they will be encouraged to teach and be the competition of schools. Also, he will reform education so that standards for all students will be equal regardless of demographics.

Ralph Nader: Nader is against the No Child Left Behind Act, thinking that tests will be unnecessary and a false truth about a student's intelligence. He will reduce the tests to one test and will reinforce teaching as an enriching experience.

Universal Health Care: Shellby, Alan, Ana, William

Barack Obama does not want Universal Health Care, per se, but will (if elected president) lower the cost, make sure that (in any way) that Health Care is affordable and available to all, and public health will be promoted. Through this plan, health care will be available and affordable to everyone, you will be able to either keep your health care, or get a new one, and a pre-existing condition will not hinder you in the process of obtaining universal health care.

John McCain's view on Universal Health Care is that he will allow small business owners & the self-employed to have the same deductibility for health costs. Expand eligibility for tax-free medical savings accounts. He will also establish limits on the amount of damages awarded in medical malpractice lawsuits.

Ralph Nader's view on health care is that he wants Universal Health care to be just like Canada, free and payed for through taxes.

Homeland Security - Catherine, Breauna, Mia and Esme

Each of the candidates are unclear about their stance on Homeland Security. None of them go into detail about policies on how to prevent terrorism or any other outside force that may harm our nation; they all state to "keep our country safe" -- seemingly a false sense of security.

We have come up with a few questions:
What in the Department of Homeland Security could be improved upon, and what will the candidates do to make that improvement?

What's going on with the patriot act?

What will be done about the ports?

All are left unanswered!

Our issues is Illegal Immigration and the candidate that we truly believe will support our issue is senator Barrack Obama. Obama has great and true intentions towards helping the illegals. McCain is a republican and he wants to diminish the amount or green cards and other systems that help illegal immigrants.

Obama because he is going to get our troops out of Iraq. He is for economic change, and is not trying to benefit himself but trying to help others, such as middle class.

Not a single candidate has said that they support outsourcing. If they ever did, it would raise hell with the American people. Although John McCain hasn't necessarily done anything to try and prevent outsourcing. Yet he has stated that he does not support it.

Chris's opinion (no one else is here) I believe that we should have a time lined withdrawal from Iraq. If we pull out too quickly we will leave Iraq defenseless and open for attack, we need to wait until the Iraqi military and police are sufficiently strong enough to protect themselves.

Barack Obama would be the better choice for president when it comes to education. He will return American public education to focus on learning as opposed to teaching to pass a test.

McCain wants to generally keep things the same. He wants to support a parent's right to move their child to a better school. This can be a bad thing, because schools can become overcrowded and thus, the school's performance will go down. Also, he will put an economic ranking on teachers, and only schools with larger funding (because of their high performance) will be able to higher them.

Obama will help put funding to schools that are not performing that well and thus lower the gaps between various demographics of students.

Dorothy Sanford:I agree most with Obama eliminating the right to an Abortion is eliminating the rights that woman have its your body you should have the right to choose whether you want to have an abortion and Obama will not over turn the roe vs. wade law.{GO OBAMA}

Trinity:I think that all woman should have the choice to make a descion if they want to terminate there fetus.I agree with Obama i don't want to over turn the roe vs. wade law.

Nora:I agree with senator McCain on this one abortions are wrong you should not kill a baby.I think its kind of selfish to kill a helpless life form just because you weren't ready to have but you were ready to have sex it doesn't make sense and you should have abortion vote no on prop 4.

Hannah: I agree with McCain. Abortions are murder. Roe vs. wade needs to be overturned. I strongly disagree with Obama and his strong feelings to protect roe vs wade. Though I do respect him for understanding that this is a dividable issue.

Universal Health Care:

We, as a group, agree with Senator Barack Obama in regards to health care. Though Ralph Nader does say that we NEED UHC right now, it is true that the country is not ready for it quite yet. Barack Obama looks at this as a potential possibility in the future but for now, his ideas are sufficient. We think that, with Barack Obama as president, the health care in this country will begin to heal (no pun intended).
